Final Assessment – Advert Installation

Here is my Global Perspectives Final Assessment – Advert Installation

In the technical rehearsal I decided to have two of the projectors screens opposite one another and one in line with the two in between them since I knew I could not make a cubed shape installation to walk into without creating a shadow from the projectors across the screens. I felt that this was the most immersive that I could create with the materials we had at hand and was happy with the outcome.

I connected the 3 projectors to the 3 Macs we had in the room choosing the brand logos to be in the middle. The main projector faced the middle screen and the other two projectors sat on plinths next to the two projector screens shining onto the opposite screens, I also then had to readjust the zoom, focus and keystone on the projectors.

Overall, I am pleased with the outcome of my installation, I was unsure how the videos would look until the technical rehearsal the day before but was pleasantly surprised that they looked as good as they did. I feel that it did show the fakery and not-so-nice side of adverts with them always shown as perfect brands and products, I am satisfied enough to think that I was able to show that these adverts are quite obvious in their selling and propaganda to the consumer in a clear way where they try to create a subtleness about it.

I also feel it went well due to audience member’s reactions as one said that it made you go through a mixture of emotions to one saying that it starts to get more and more strange the longer you watch it for.

In future, I would develop this by creating longer videos before looping them as you could add many more adverts into this as it is an open subject on adverts in general and how we consume them. I would also like to add more screens to make it more overwhelming and impressive atmosphere.

In conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed developing the final assessment and would like to create more installations in the future. I also thought the other projects in the class were really imaginative and had a lot of fun participating in Rosie’s assessment.
